No. Scriptopus runs in your browser at app.scriptopus.com, so there is nothing to install. If you prefer a desktop app, choose a plan and download it for Mac, or get the Windows app from the Microsoft Store. The browser and the desktop app are one workspace on one account, so Writer and Pro work in both. On the Free plan, the desktop app is where you write, and your scripts stay on your computer. With Writer or Pro you choose whether your work stays on your device or syncs to the cloud.

Yes. Writer is free to use during the beta, including the AI features, and no credit card is required to start. Pro opens later. There is also Scriptopus Free, the desktop app on a free account, with your scripts kept on your own computer. It stays free for good, on Mac and on Windows.

Sign in, then create a new project and choose its type, either a one-off film or a series. You can also start from a loose idea and develop it into a full script later, or import an existing screenplay. Your work autosaves as you go.

Yes. There's a mobile companion for capturing ideas by voice, reviewing your work and sharing it for feedback on the go. You can even add it to your home screen. The full writing surface, meaning the screenplay editor, page setup, exports and reports, is designed for a desktop or laptop.

Yes. Scriptopus applies industry-standard screenplay formatting as you type. Scene headings, action, character cues, dialogue and transitions all fall into place. Use Tab and Enter to move between element types without touching the mouse.

Yes. Choose the series format and you get seasons that hold episodes, each with its own brief, beats, treatment and script, while shared details like characters and world stay consistent across the whole show. Once you have a couple of episodes written, the series reports read across all of them at once, covering season arc, character arcs, open questions and their payoffs, and continuity between episodes.

Yes. Page setup lets you control page size, margins, font and spacing, either for a single script or as your default for new projects. There's also a one-click preset that matches Final Draft's standard layout if that's what your production expects.

Yes. Most fields, including the script editor and your story notes, support voice input, with automatic punctuation and clean-up so what you say comes out readable. It's especially handy for getting a messy first idea down fast, or capturing thoughts on mobile.

They're stages of developing a story before you write pages. The Beat Board maps your story visually as beats and sequences. The Treatment develops it into prose, scene by scene. The Story Canvas is a free-form space to think through characters, themes and structure. All of them feed the same project, so nothing has to be re-entered when you move to the script.

It's the line we build the product on: Scriptopus helps you develop, analyze and manage your story. It never writes your screenplay for you.

In practice that means the screenplay is yours alone. There is no rewrite, shorten or polish button anywhere on your pages, no autocomplete, and no feature that types into the script. Not one line. What the AI does instead is read: it analyzes structure, finds continuity breaks, maps your characters, and turns your material into pitch documents and reports.

Everything around the screenplay is still yours to direct. On the synopsis, treatment, beats and characters the AI will draft when you directly ask it to, and every change arrives as an accept-or-reject review. You can always tell what came from where.

It works the way a dramaturg does, by reading and responding rather than writing. It can analyze your structure, talk through where a scene could go, surface plot holes and continuity gaps, challenge your choices, and produce reports on characters, locations and production needs, always with the context of your whole story rather than the line you're on. What it will not do is write your pages: there is no rewrite, shorten or polish button anywhere in the script editor.

No, and that's by design. We call it the authorship boundary: Scriptopus can read your screenplay, question it, analyze it and help you develop everything around it, but it does not write it. There is no button anywhere that rewrites, shortens or polishes your script, and the chat will decline if you ask it to draft a scene for you. On the synopsis, treatment, beats and characters, the AI will draft when you directly ask, and every change arrives as an accept-or-reject review. The story stays yours.

No. Your work isn't used to train AI models. When you use an AI feature, the relevant text is sent to the AI provider only to generate that response for you, never to teach a model. You keep all rights to everything you create.

Not during the beta, when the AI features are included free. Once paid plans begin, AI use is counted in Ink: Writer includes 1,200 Ink a month and Pro 4,000, and you can add extra Ink from $5 that never expires. Writing itself never depends on Ink. The plans show what each amount covers.

Yes, that's Table Read. Every character is cast to its own distinct AI voice and the script is performed line by line, in the language it's written in, with the transcript highlighting each line as it plays. You can recast any character's voice yourself. During the beta it reads the first few pages of a script.

Yes. You can import the formats you already work in: Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain, Celtx (.celtx), PDF and Word (.docx), then pick up where you left off.

You can export your screenplay to PDF, Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain and Celtx (.celtx), and download your briefs and reports as PDFs too, so you can hand off to a production, a reader or another tool whenever you need.

In most cases, yes. Scene headings, action and dialogue are detected and mapped to the right screenplay elements. Imports from messier sources (like a scanned PDF) can need a little tidying, which you can do quickly in the editor.

Always. There's no lock-in, so you can export to PDF, FDX, Fountain or Celtx any time. Your work is yours, and you can keep your own copies whenever you like.

Yes. Your writing saves as you work and syncs securely to the cloud, so it's there when you sign in from another device. No manual "save" button to remember.

Yes. Scriptopus keeps automatic backups and a version history, so you can look back at earlier drafts and restore what you need, even a single field or one episode, without overwriting everything else.

Yes. Your projects are private to your account by default. Nothing becomes visible to anyone else unless you deliberately create a share link for it, and you can revoke that access at any time. You keep all rights to everything you create.

Export anything you want to keep at any time, in PDF, FDX, Fountain or Celtx. If you choose to delete your account, your data is removed with it. You're always in control of what stays and what goes.

Yes. You can create a share link for a script or a specific part of your project and send it to readers, collaborators or producers. They can read it and leave comments and feedback, with no account needed on their end. You stay in control and can revoke a link at any time.

Today you can share your work and gather feedback and comments from others. Deeper real-time co-writing is on our roadmap, and it's something we're actively building toward.

It's free while in beta. When the beta ends there will be three plans: Free, which is the desktop app on your own computer and costs nothing for good; Writer at $9 a month billed yearly, or $15 month to month; and Pro at $20 a month billed yearly, or $28 month to month. Every new member gets two months of Writer free. We will give plenty of notice well before anything changes, and nothing will start charging you by surprise.

On the sign-in screen, use the "Forgot password" link. We'll email you a secure link to set a new one. If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or write to hello@scriptopus.com.

You can delete your account from your account settings. This permanently removes your projects and data, so export anything you'd like to keep first.
